The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Azlan Darus as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. This appointment recognises his distinguished leadership and longstanding contributions to occupational health, public health policy, rehabilitation management, and social protection in Malaysia.

Dr Azlan currently serves as Head of the Prevention, Medical, and Rehabilitation Division at Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), where he has played a pivotal role in advancing workplace safety, injury prevention, disability management, and rehabilitation programmes at the national level. With over 20 years of experience across Malaysia’s healthcare and occupational health sectors, he has helped shape several initiatives that now serve as benchmarks for preventive healthcare and rehabilitation practices.
Beyond his national responsibilities, Dr Azlan is actively involved in international occupational health and social security organisations. He serves as Vice President of the Technical Commission for Prevention in Transportation under the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and as Vice Chairman of the ISSA Technical Committee for Insurance Against Occupational Injury and Diseases. He is also the National Secretary for the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH).
Dr Azlan’s academic and professional engagements extend across multiple institutions, including roles as Research Fellow at Universiti Utara Malaysia, CEO@Faculty at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Elite Fellow at Universiti Malaya. His ongoing work in workforce health research, disability management, and occupational safety continues to influence policy and practice both nationally and internationally.
The Department warmly welcomes Dr Azlan’s appointment and looks forward to his valuable contributions in strengthening collaboration between the University and PERKESO. His extensive experience and leadership are expected to enhance opportunities for research, training, policy development, and service initiatives related to occupational health, rehabilitation, social security, and workplace well-being.
