Former Academics

Associate Professor Dr Marzuki Isahak was a member of the Occupational & Environmental Health Discipline from 2013 to 2021. In August 2021, he moved to Petronas as the Specialist (Occupational Health) at Group HSE PETRONAS.


Dr Azlan Darus is an alumnus and a medical lecturer with the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. He joined the Master of Public Health programme in 2004 and proceeded to the MPH(Occupational Health) programme in 2005. He completed his studies in 2008 with the MPH and MPH(Occupational Health). On the completion of his studies at UM, he joined the Department as a Medical Lecturer in 2008. In 2012, after serving four years at UM. He continued his career as the Manager, Prevention and Health Promotion Unit, Medical and Rehabilitation Section, Social Security Organization. Dr Azlan continues to support the Department by being a member of the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health-UM and participating as an invited lecturer for our Master of Public Health programme. In 2023, Dr Azlan was appointed as an ELITE@UM.


Professor Dr Jason Teoh Soon Teong served as the Head of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine from 1992 to 2000. Prior to that, he was the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1990 to 1992. He retired from the university in 2003.

Professor Winifred Danaraj nee Lewis joined the Faculty of Medicine in Singapore, as a lecturer in the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health. She was promoted to senior lecturer in 1958. In 1961, with the resignation of the incumbent, she became the head of the department. She was the first woman to be appointed to an academic medical chair in the University of Malaya in Singapore, and later became the first local person to be appointed as Professor of Social Medicine and Public Health. In 1964 she accepted the post of Professor of Social and Preventive Medicine in the newly established medical school in Kuala Lumpur.
