Community Health Promotion and Dengue Prevention Programme Reaches Ampang Community

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, successfully organised the Community Health Promotion and Dengue Prevention Programme on 13 June 2026 at Dataran Belia Kampung Bukit Sungai Putih, Ampang, in collaboration with community partners including DUN Lembah Jaya, Sukarelawan Kesihatan Komuniti Selangor (SUKA), local community leaders, and other supporting organisations.

The programme aimed to promote healthy lifestyles while increasing community awareness of dengue prevention, particularly among children and their families. Through a series of interactive health education activities, participants learned practical measures to prevent dengue, maintain a healthy environment, and adopt positive health behaviours.

A range of family-friendly activities was organised throughout the day, including educational games, clown performances, balloon activities, and health promotion booths to encourage active participation among children.

Eligible children aged 7–12 years also benefited from free anaemia screening and dengue vaccination, highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare and early health screening.

The programme was attended by YB Tuan Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad, ADUN Lembah Jaya, alongside local community representatives and collaborating partners, together with the Head of Department, Professor Dr Victor Hoe, and Head of the health community programme, Professor Dr Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening community health through cross-sector collaboration.

This initiative demonstrates the Department’s ongoing commitment to translating public health knowledge into meaningful community engagement. By bringing health promotion and preventive services closer to the community, the programme helped raise awareness of dengue prevention while improving access to essential health services for children and their families.

The Department extends its sincere appreciation to all organising committee members, collaborators, volunteers, and community partners for their invaluable support in making the programme a success. Such initiatives continue to strengthen partnerships between the University and the community while fostering healthier and more resilient communities.
