The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, successfully organised the Community Health Promotion and Dengue Prevention Programme on 23 May 2026 at Dewan MPP Blok F, PPR Kerinchi, in collaboration with the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and community partners.
The programme promotes healthy lifestyles while raising awareness of dengue prevention among the local community, particularly children and their families. Through a variety of interactive educational activities, participants learned about effective dengue prevention measures, healthy living practices, and the importance of maintaining a safe home environment to reduce mosquito breeding.
As part of the programme, children enjoyed engaging health education activities, games, and mystery gifts that encouraged learning through fun and active participation. In addition, free anaemia screening and dengue vaccination were offered to eligible children aged 7–12 years, highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare and early health screening.
The event was officiated by YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai and Minister of Communications, with welcoming remarks delivered by Professor Dr Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki, Public Health Medicine Specialist and Head of the health community programme, Universiti Malaya, and also representatives from the local community. His presence underscored the importance of collaboration among academic institutions, healthcare providers, community leaders, and government agencies in strengthening public health initiatives.
The programme reflects the Department’s continued commitment to community engagement and health promotion through evidence-based public health interventions. By bringing preventive health services directly into the community, the initiative not only increased awareness of dengue prevention but also encouraged healthier lifestyle practices and improved access to essential health services for children and families.
The Department extends its sincere appreciation to all organisers, collaborators, volunteers, and community members whose support and participation contributed to the success of this meaningful programme.
