The Public Health Medicine Department, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Universiti Malaysia Sabah had their final examination for the Master of Public Health programme. Professor Dr Victor Hoe was invited by Assoc Prof Dr Syed Sharizman Syed Abdul Rahim the Head of Department as the external examiner. The original plan was for Dr Hoe to travel to Kota Kinabalu for the session. However, due to the continued COVID-19 situation in the country, the sessions were conducted online.
On Monday 23 August 2021, Dr Hoe attended the research project presentation by Dr Alif Bin Ramli, Dr Muhamad Muddassir Abdul Rahim and Dr Ahmad Nabiel Alias together with me was Prof Dr Muhammad Safree Jeffree, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, USM and Dr Zulkhairul Naim.
The following are the research topics presented by the students:
- Occupational Formaldehyde Exposure and Health Symptoms among Healthcare Workers in Histopathology Laboratory, Hospital Queen Elizabeth, Sabah – Dr Alif Bin Ramli
- Burnout among Healthcare Workers during COVID-19 Pandemic in Lahad Datu District – Dr Muhamad Muddassir Abdul Rahim
- Occupational Factors Associated with Low Back Pain among Healthcare Workers in Government Health Clinics in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
On Tuesday 24 August 2021, Dr Hoe reviewed final examination papers for Occupational Health which consisted of Multiple Choice Questions, Modified Essay Questions, and Long Essay Questions.
On Wednesday 25 August 2021, Dr Hoe presented a talk on “The Public Health Department in a Hospital“, where he shared with the audience the experience of setting up the Public Health Department and the Occupational Safety Health and Environmental Unit in the University Malaya Medical Centre. This was followed up with a meeting with the Faculty from the Public Health Medicine Department.
