The postgraduate orientation programme for the public health postgraduate students joining the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine was conducted virtually through the Microsoft Teams platform on the 6th and 7th October 2020. This was in line with the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Although there were no face-to-face meetings, the new students for the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) and Master of Public Health (MPH) programme have the chance to meet virtually and see all the academic staff and students.
This year there are 51 new MPH candidates, they consisted of 25 doctors from the Ministry of Health Malaysia who has received scholarships for the MPH-DrPH programme, 21 private candidates from Malaysia and five international candidates. As for the Doctor of Public Health programme, there are 19 new candidates who have registered, they consisted of 14 candidates from the Ministry of Health Malaysia who has received scholarships for the MPH-DrPH programme, three private candidates from Malaysia, and two international candidates, one each from Saudi Arabia and Libya.
Since there was no face-to-face orientation in the Faculty of Medicine, we have asked last years’ MPH students to help us to produce a video to introduce the Faculty to the new students. The video was produced by Khairul Asraf, Directed by Hyikmah, Edited by Khairul Asraf, Hyikmah and Aishah, and staring Aishah, Khairul, Mustafa and feat Hyikham.
The students also produce a video on their journey in the MPH programme, showing photos and videos. The video was produced and edited by Khairul Asraf, and staring Class of MPH 2018/2019, Class of MPH 2019/2020, the SPM academic and administrative staff.
