In an interview with the New Straits Times on the 3 April 2020, Professor Datuk Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud commented he is against traditional Ramadan bazaars in the light of the COVID-19 outbreak, this is because it will undo all the social distancing work that was put in place. He also thinks that Balik Kampung (returning back to hometown) is also not advisable. Prof Dr Awang Bulgiba further stress that the compliance of the MCO should be more than 99%, as only one per cent of the population of 32 million people does not comply with the MCO will mean that there will be an additional 300,000 people compounding the effects of the transmission.
