The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM) successfully conducted the final examinations for the Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Medical Science in Public Health programmes from 13 to 27 April 2007.
The examinations were overseen by the appointed external examiner, Harry Campbell from the University of Edinburgh, ensuring adherence to international academic standards and quality assurance processes. Overall, the results were encouraging, with all candidates successfully passing the examination except for one.
The MPH cohort reflected strong international representation, comprising seven candidates from Malaysia, sixteen from Sudan, and one candidate each from Bangladesh, Iraq, Myanmar, and Nigeria. Similarly, the Master of Medical Science in Public Health programme included two candidates from Malaysia and six from Sudan.

In conjunction with the examination period, the Department hosted a luncheon in honour of Professor Campbell on 21 April 2007 at Gems Restaurant, where he was treated to Northern Indian cuisine. The event was attended by Ikram Shah Ismail, Hamimah Hassan, Atiya Ab Sallam, as well as academic staff from SPM. The luncheon provided an opportunity for collegial engagement and professional exchange, further strengthening academic ties and collaboration.
