The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, proudly participated in the National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Seminar 2026, held on 27–28 July 2026 at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre. Organised by the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (MNKKP) and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), the seminar commemorated 150 years of occupational safety and health (OSH) in Malaysia and attracted more than 1,000 participants from government, academia, industry and professional organisations. The event also featured more than 10 exhibition booths showcasing innovations and initiatives from leading occupational safety and health organisations.
Universiti Malaya was well represented by two distinguished members of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine. Prof. Dr. Victor Hoe Chee Wai Abdullah delivered an invited lecture entitled “Climate Change and the Future of Occupational Safety and Health: Challenges, Adaptation and Resilience of the Workplace”, highlighting strategies to prepare workplaces for climate-related occupational risks and strengthen resilience through evidence-based approaches.
The seminar also featured Adjunct Professor Dr. Azlan Darus, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) of the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO/PREKESSO). His participation underscored the importance of strong collaboration between academia and national agencies in advancing occupational safety, worker protection and social security in Malaysia.
The seminar provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders, reinforcing the role of research, innovation and partnerships in addressing emerging occupational safety and health challenges. The participation of Universiti Malaya academics reflected the Faculty of Medicine’s continued commitment to supporting national efforts to create safer, healthier and more resilient workplaces.
