Professor Dr Victor Hoe, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, represented the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) at the inaugural Asia Pacific Society of Association Executives (APSAE) Summit 2026, held on 24–25 July 2026 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Professor Hoe attended the summit in his capacity as Secretary-General of APACPH, following an invitation from Mr Prasant Saha, President of APSAE.
The summit brought together association leaders and executives from across the Asia-Pacific region to explore emerging issues in association leadership, governance, membership engagement, digital transformation, and organisational sustainability. As professional organisations continue to navigate rapid technological change and evolving stakeholder expectations, the programme provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and sharing best practices across diverse sectors.
Among the highlights were discussions on the future of association leadership, the strategic implications of artificial intelligence, regional collaboration, and innovative approaches to strengthening member engagement. The keynote address by leadership strategist Kevin Cottam challenged organisations to embrace adaptive leadership and organisational transformation, while Jack Sim, Founder of the World Toilet Organisation, demonstrated how visionary leadership and strategic partnerships can create lasting global impact. A masterclass by Olena Lima introduced the Membership Marketing Cycle, a practical framework for sustainable membership growth centred on member value, engagement, retention, and the strategic use of technology.
The insights gained from the summit are highly relevant to APACPH as it continues to strengthen its role as a leading regional academic public health network. The discussions also resonate with other professional organisations in which Professor Hoe serves in leadership capacities, including the Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM) and the College of Public Health Medicine, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia (CPHM), where sustaining member engagement, embracing digital transformation, and demonstrating organisational value are increasingly important in a rapidly evolving professional landscape.
Participation in forums such as the APSAE Summit provides valuable opportunities to learn from successful association management practices beyond the public health sector. These lessons will inform ongoing efforts within APACPH, AOEMM, and CPHM to remain relevant and responsive amidst the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, changing member expectations, and the increasing number of regional and international professional associations and societies.
