The UM3MT competition challenges doctoral candidates to present their research clearly and effectively within just three minutes, using only a single presentation slide. The competition aims to strengthen researchers’ ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise, engaging, and accessible manner for wider audiences beyond academia.

Organised by the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, the faculty-level competition brought together doctoral candidates who had successfully completed their proposal defence sessions. Participants were evaluated on their ability to present impactful research with clarity, creativity, and confidence.

The exceptional performance by SPM students reflects not only their dedication and hard work, but also the department’s commitment to nurturing researchers who are able to translate scientific knowledge into meaningful public health communication. Effective communication of research findings is increasingly important in advancing evidence-informed policies, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration in public health.

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine extends its heartfelt congratulations to all winners and participants for representing the department with distinction. Appreciation is also extended to supervisors, mentors, and the Faculty of Medicine for their continuous support in fostering academic excellence and research innovation among postgraduate students.

As these students advance to greater academic and professional achievements, the department looks forward to seeing their research contribute meaningfully to improving population health and strengthening evidence-based public health practice in Malaysia and beyond.

The three winners will be representing the Faculty to compete at the university level UM3MT on the 21 May 2026.
