The ILO Academy on Occupational Safety and Health, held from 10 to 14 November 2025 in Turin, Italy, brought together OSH experts and policymakers from around the world to address emerging workplace challenges. Organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and its International Training Centre (ITCILO), the Academy explored key themes including national OSH governance, biological and chemical hazard control, psychosocial risks, digital transformation, and climate-related impacts on worker safety.
Representing Malaysia, Associate Professor Dr Lim Yin Cheng from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, participated under a full ILO fellowship. Dr Lim was also invited as a speaker to share UMMC’s best practices in biological hazard control, focusing particularly on optimising ventilation and airflow systems and strengthening risk communication to ensure healthcare workers feel safe at work. His contribution highlighted the importance of integrating engineering controls with effective communication to build trust and enhance safety in healthcare settings.
The Academy provided a valuable platform for cross-country learning, offering practical insights and fostering new collaborations in occupational health. Malaysia’s participation reinforces Universiti Malaya’s commitment to advancing OSH capacity and supporting evidence-based improvements to workplace health and safety across the region.
