The Industry Leadership Summit 2025, themed “Investing in Workplace Health – A Five Year Outlook”, was held on 10 September 2025 at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Organised by the Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy in collaboration with PMCare, the summit convened thought leaders, HR professionals, and healthcare experts from various industries to discuss strategies for safeguarding employee well-being in a rapidly changing work environment.
Forum 1: Exploring Emerging Threats and Opportunities in Workplace Health
A key highlight of the summit was Forum 1: The Burden of Emerging Threats and Opportunities on Health in the Workplace, featuring expert panellists, including:
- Prof. Dr Victor Hoe, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya
- Dr Gogillan Sevaratnam, Vice-President, Malaysian Society of Occupational Health Doctors
- Dr Abed Onn, Vice-President, Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia
- Moderated by Tee Shiao Eek, Senior Producer and Presenter, BFM 89.9
The forum made it a priority to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes and hypertension, which contribute to over 70% of premature deaths in Malaysia. It emphasised the importance of integrated occupational health strategies, especially in the postpandemic era. Key discussions focused on enhancing mental health support, promoting job satisfaction, and involving HR departments in developing proactive workplace health policies. These measures are essential to safeguard worker well-being, sustain productivity, and manage the challenges of an ageing workforce and rising healthcare costs.
Reflecting on the Way Forward
The forum served as a timely reminder that workplace health is no longer a peripheral issue. it is a strategic imperative. The discussions reaffirmed that improving occupational health outcomes requires an integrated approach combining policy reform, employer commitment, and employee empowerment.
