The department proudly congratulates our two Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) alumni, Dr Santhi Subramaniam and Dr Raudah Mohd Yunus who were recently selected for the Alpha Public Health (ALPHA) 2022 Fellowship Programme.
Dr Santhi is currently the Head of Outbreak Respond Section, Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia, and Dr Raudah is a lecturer and researcher at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Kuala Lumpur. Previously, Dr Santhi was supervised by Associate Professor Dr Nik Daliana Nik Farid and Associate Professor Dr Mas Ayu Said. She graduated in 2019 with her research title “Perception of Gombak District Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Women, Spouse, and Health Care Providers on Family Planning Utilisation – A Qualitative Study”. While Dr Raudah graduated in 2018 with her research title “Consequences of Elder Abuse and Neglect: A Systematic Review and Prospective Cohort Study among Older Adults in Rural Malaysia”. She was supervised by Professor Dr Noran Naqiah Hairi and Professor Dr Choo Wan Yuen.
Alpha Public Health (ALPHA) 2022 Fellowship Programme is organised by the National University of Singapore, the World Bank, AINQA Health, Hanoi University of Public Health, and the China Medical Board. The ALPHA programme aims to train the best and the brightest young public health leaders from ASEAN in precision public health, pandemic preparedness, digital health, and technological innovation. Structured as a fellowship programme, ALPHA hopes to foster effective cross-country collaboration and build synergistic and strong partnerships among the ALPHA cohort in order to promote the co-development of future capabilities and enhance mutual support in times of new disease threats.
The program will run from April 2022 to January 2023, Dr Santhi and Dr Raudah are the two of four illustrious Malaysian fellows with multidisciplinary backgrounds and a strong passion for public health and will be joining a total of 20 selected ASEAN fellows in the nine-month programme. During the programme, fellows will be given the rare opportunities to learn from global industry leaders and renowned guest speakers in public health’s digital interventions through practical case studies and site visits.
As one of the participating ASEAN countries in the program, Malaysia received the highest number of 22 applicants who work across various public health settings and disciplines. Key selection criteria for successful fellows include two to four years of various professional experience and exposure to public health. Ideally, the right candidates must be analytical with working knowledge and interest in data science, artificial intelligence (AI), & machine learning (ML). The ALPHA programme will serve as a unique capacity-building platform to create a cohort with a shared vision for health in the region enabled by the use of technology and data, leading to an innovative outlook on global health.
