The Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM) held their Hari Raya Open House at the Hotel Istana in Kuala Lumpur on the 6th July 2019. Prof Dr Victor Hoe and Dr Marzuki Isahak the Council Member of the AOEMM attended the event. Besides the sumptuous spread for the open house, Prof Jamal Hisham Hashim, a Visiting Professor of Environmental Health from the Universiti Selangor (UniSel) also shares a talk on “Prevention of Environmental Hazardous Chemical Exposures: Lessons Learnt from Sungai Kim Kim Incident”. The talk was very informative and brought some light to the current environmental situation in the country. The situation in Pasir Gudang, Johor was compounded with the increasing number of industrial activities, unplanned development, and climate change. The current models used for environmental impact assessment needs to incorporate the total environmental capacity to handle the discharge from the industry and also the new climate phenomena due to climate change. At the end of the event, there was also a lucky draw for 10 lucky winners.
