“Making Data Talk: Universitas Airlangga Students Discover the Power of Jamovi”

Kuala Lumpur, 10 November 2025 – The Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga, hosted an online guest lecture by Associate Professor Dr Farizah Mohd Hairi, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Universiti Malaya, titled “Making Data Talk: Correlation & Regression Made Simple Using Jamovi.”

Originally designed to demonstrate R, Dr Farizah introduced participants to Jamovi, a free, open-source statistical software built on the R engine. Using the WHO Low Birth Weight dataset, she guided undergraduate and postgraduate students step-by-step through correlation and regression analysis in Jamovi.

“The audience was speechless when they saw how intuitive Jamovi is; that’s the joy of teaching, seeing students’ eyes light up when data becomes simple and meaningful,” said Dr Farizah.

She expressed heartfelt appreciation to Associate Professor Dr ‘Abqariyah Yahya, whose Beginner’s Guide to Data Analysis Using Jamovi made the live demonstration seamless. “May Allah grant her abundance barakah for her generosity and effort in compiling these resources,” she added.

The session left students inspired to explore open-source tools for their own research. Instead of complex coding, Jamovi empowers them to focus on thinking statistically and interpreting meaningfully, aligning perfectly with the mission of evidence-based public-health education.

What an incredible session! Grateful for the opportunity to connect, learn, and share, no matter the distance. Technology truly bridges oceans and brings us closer together.
