We are proud to announce that Professor Dr Victor CW Hoe of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, has been elected as the Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) for the 2025–2029 term. The election took place during the Annual General Assembly of APACPH in conjunction with the 56th APACPH Conference, held on 4 November 2025 in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Strengthening Regional Public Health Leadership
APACPH is a premier regional network dedicated to advancing academic public health through education, research, and policy collaboration. As Secretary-General, Prof. Hoe will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic direction of the consortium. His responsibilities will include fostering inter-institutional collaboration, enhancing academic exchange, and promoting evidence-informed public health practices across the Asia-Pacific region.
This appointment is a testament not only to Prof Hoe’s leadership in public health but also to Universiti Malaya’s enduring influence within APACPH. Over the years, UM has been a cornerstone of the consortium, having produced three past Presidents:
- Prof Dato’ Anuar Zaini Md Zain (2004–2005)
- Tan Sri Dato’ Professor Dr Mohd Amin Jalaludin (2012–2013)
- Prof Dr Sarina Low Wah Yuen (2019–2021)
UM’s longstanding commitment is further evidenced by its role as the host of the APACPH Secretariat Office and the editorial base for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health (APJPH).

Prof Hoe’s election signifies a renewed opportunity to amplify Universiti Malaya’s regional impact. With a focus on academic excellence, policy advocacy, and capacity building, his leadership will aim to address emerging public health challenges in the region through collaborative research, digital innovation, and inclusive education.
