The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, proudly announces the appointment of Professor Dr Nirmala Bhoo Pathy as the new Head of the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice (CEBP). Her appointment marks a new chapter in the Centre’s ongoing commitment to advancing public health through rigorous epidemiological research and evidence-informed policy development.

Prof Dr Nirmala brings with her extensive experience in cancer epidemiology, non-communicable diseases, and health services research. Her leadership is expected to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and enhance the Centre’s regional and global impact in translating research into practice. Her vision aligns with CEBP’s mission to support public health improvements through evidence-based initiatives.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to Professor Dr Moy Foong Ming for her exemplary leadership and contributions during her tenure as Head of CEBP. Under her guidance, the Centre has achieved significant milestones in research, capacity building, and community outreach, strengthening its role as a key public health research hub in Malaysia and beyond.

Significance for Public Health
This leadership transition underscores the dynamic and evolving nature of public health academia. With challenges such as climate change, emerging infections, and health inequities on the rise, the need for evidence-based strategies has never been greater. CEBP, under new leadership, is well-positioned to address these issues through collaborative, data-driven solutions that inform policy and improve population health outcomes.
