The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine had the privilege of hosting Dr Courtney M. Yuen on 25th March 2025 for an insightful discussion on tuberculosis (TB) research and broader global health initiatives. Dr Yuen, a distinguished Fulbright Scholar from Harvard University currently affiliated with Sunway University, shared her expertise in TB research, healthcare delivery, and public health strategies.
With an extensive background in global health, Dr Yuen has worked with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and currently serves as an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. Her research, spanning Peru, Kenya, and Pakistan, focuses on overcoming healthcare delivery challenges in TB management—an area of significant interest to the department’s ongoing research efforts.
During the session, Dr Yuen engaged with faculty members and researchers in an exchange of knowledge and ideas, addressing key challenges in TB control, from diagnostic accessibility to treatment strategies and policy implementation. Discussions also explored potential research collaborations, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary and cross-institutional efforts in tackling TB globally.
The department looks forward to fostering collaborations with Dr Yuen and leveraging shared expertise to advance innovative solutions in TB research and public health. This visit underscores the department’s commitment to engaging with global health leaders and contributing to impactful research that improves health outcomes worldwide.
