On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the MMA Wilayah Persekutuan and the UM MEDSOC Paediatrics Student Interest Group held their first joint community activity to celebrate Chinese New Year in Cheras. Organised by Prof. Dr. Victor Hoe from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UM, the event took place at Persatuan Kebajikan Wen Hua and aimed to bring a little festive cheer to local children.
The event saw participation from key representatives of MMA Wilayah Persekutuan, including Chairman Dr. S. Selvarajah Sathaya and Vice Chairman Col. Dr. Gnaamalar, alongside other committee members. Volunteers from the Universiti Malaya Medical Society’s (UM MEDSOC) Paediatrics Student Interest Group also joined in, contributing their time and energy to make the day special for the children.
Dania Shri, a Year 4 medical student, inspired the children by speaking about career prospects and overcoming challenges to achieve their dreams. Her talk, translated into Mandarin by Justin Tan, a Year 1 student, resonated deeply with the children. Both students offered ongoing support through UM MEDSOC’s Instagram platform.
The MMA team donated essentials for the home and festive goodies, while the students contributed books, toys, and goodie bags. This collaboration brought joy to the children and reinforced the importance of community engagement during festive celebrations.
