INTAN Talk Your Way To The Top 2024 (TYWTTT) – Speak Like a Toastmaster is a public speaking competition organised by the National Institute of Public Administration/Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara (INTAN) that is open to all grades and schemes in the civil service across Malaysia.
TYWTTT consists of three phases:
Phase 1: Audition and Selection
Phase 2: Coaching & Mentoring and Semi-final Competition
Phase 3: Final Competition
This year’s competition theme was Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Enhanced Public Service Delivery. Before the semi-final competition, shortlisted participants attended a public speaking course that equipped them with high-impact public speaking techniques from experienced mentors. The two-day module equipped participants with skills in developing a storyboard, delivering effective persuasive and informative speech, impactful delivery techniques, including body language and the power of voice in a speech. During the course, one of the great trainers was Mas Mahathir Mohammed, the World No. 3 Winner of the 2022 World Championship of Public Speaking.
A total of 30 contestants from different ministries across the country, including Sabah and Sarawak, who passed the audition and selection phase, battled it out for the semi-final competition. The semi-final competition was held on 30th May 2024 at Intan Jalan Elmu. Only the top 10 are selected for the Grand Finals on 27 June 2024, which will be held in INTAN Bukit Kiara.
Dr. Rowena presented The Future of Malaysian Healthcare and her ideas on how AI can transform Malaysian Healthcare. She shared her experience that the Public Speaking Course was an eye-opener to her on the importance of effective public speaking skills among civil servants. Skills in presenting and delivering effective speech are important to ensure the audience receives the maximum information and attention. She gained much knowledge that could be incorporated into her work experience in public health medicine. She also shared her experience with the Doctor of Public Health Programme (DrPH) at the University of Malaya, which added value to her presentation skills during the competition.
Dr Rowena received the heartiest congratulatory notes from her DrPH supervisors, Associate Professor Dr Nik Daliana Nik Farid, and Dr Nur Afiqah Mohd Salleh. The Department would like to wish Dr Rowena all the best in her Grand Finals!
