The ASEAN Regional Training Programme on Infodemic Management in Public Health was a hybrid event jointly organized by various international bodies, including the Office of International Cooperation, Thailand’s Department of Disease Control, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, the ASEAN Secretariat, Germany’s BMZ (implemented by GIZ), and the WHO. It occurred virtually on November 14, 16, and 29, 2023, and in-person from November 21-23, 2023, in Pattaya, Thailand. Attended by 65 participants from 7 ASEAN Member States, along with collaborators and partner organizations, the training aimed to enhance competencies in managing infodemics in public health.
The curriculum featured five modules, covering understanding infodemiology, combating fake news, developing risk communication skills, exploring health behaviors in infodemic management, and utilizing fact-checking tools. The training enabled public health officials at various levels to improve their knowledge and skills in infodemic management. Participants learned from international experiences, familiarized themselves with fact-check tools, and prepared to apply these skills to enhance community awareness and support effective risk communication in their countries and the broader ASEAN region.
