A delegation from the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia visited the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHE) Unit, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on the 22 November 2022. The delegation was headed by Dr Khamsiah Binti Nawawi the head of the OSH Unit at HTCM. The purpose of this visit was to learn about the organisation and function of the OSHE unit in UMMC.
OSHE unit in UMMC is one of the first hospital based occupational safety, health and environmental unit in Malaysia. The function of the unit is divided in to three main sections, i.e., health, safety and environment, and fire safety. The health section is headed by Dr Faiz Baharudin. It is involve in managing issues related to occupational health in UMMC and also runs the first hospital based Occupational Health Clinics in the country. The safety and environment unit is headed by Ms Norsyahida Syazwani Mohd Shukri. The section oversees occupational safety, and environmental issues in UMMC. The safety component includes workers, contractors, visitors and patient safety. The environmental parts focus on the indoor environment and schedule waste. The fire safety section is headed by Zulklifli Omar. It is concern with the fire safety issues in the UMMC.
Each of the sections shared the activities and occupational health services that is provided in UMMC. The HCTM also share with us the function of their OSH unit. It was a good sharing session with exchange of ideas. We were also able to learn the different setups at other organisations.
