In an interview with the CodeBlue newspaper on the uncontrol rise of COVID-19 cases in Sabah, Associate Professor Dr Nirmala Bhoo Pathy said that Sabah has a large proportion of undocumented migrants.
She said that they are fearful to come forward and may continue to hold on and go on with life until they become really sick before seeking help.
She said that is open knowledge that the undocumented migrants were detained during the second wave of the pandemic in March. This has scared away the rest of the migrants as they are in fear of being arrested.
Dr Nirmala said that since COVID-19 is a public health emergency, she said that immunity should be given to undocumented migrants to get the COVID-19 situation under control.
