The MMA Wilayah 16th Primary Care Symposium was held on Saturday, 15 February 2020 at the Royale Chulan Damansara which was organised by the MMA Wilayah branch. The symposium was targeted to frontliners including General Practitioners, Family Medicine Specialists and medical doctors from a variety of backgrounds and primary health facilities.
The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM) was honoured to be invited to participate in the symposium as an exhibitor. Dr Mohd Khairul Ammer Yahaya, Dr Tham Sin Wan, Dr Vivek Jason, and Dr Min Fui Wong our Yr-1 DrPH students represented SPM, with the objective of promoting the Public Health programme offered in University of Malaya and to engage participants and communicate with them current issues relevant within Public Health such as the current COVID-19 epidemic in China, vaccine-preventable disease, and others. Notwithstanding, the demand at the booth was particularly on the current COVID-19 epidemic with participants showing an explosive interest in the poster and pamphlets that were developed in house by the SPM students. The poster in particular was a ‘most wanted’ item during the day with many doctors asking for a hardcopy of the poster, to be displayed at their respective clinics and working place. The booth was well received by participants with many engaging the booth with numerous queries regarding Public health and Public health education in UM.
A certificate of participation was presented by Dr N P Krishnan K.V.P. Menon, the MMA Wilayah’s Chairman to the SPM department. The Department would like to convey appreciation to the MMA on the opportunity to participate in the event. Hopefully, this relationship will continue to produce many fruitful collaborations in the coming years.
