On the admission of fresh Master of Public Health, Master of Medical Science Public Health, Doctor of Public Health, Master of Medical Science and Doctor of Philosophy, academic session 2015/16, a four-day orientation programme (1-4 September 2015) was organized under Postgraduate Unit. The programme started off with a welcoming address and introduction to the department by Assoc Prof Dr Farizah Mohd Hairi, followed by a general overview of SPM Postgraduate Programmes by Assoc Prof Dr Victor Hoe. Courses offered by the department were then presented by Head of Disciplines. In addition to that, a detailed presentation regarding the programme’s rules and regulations were delivered by each Programme Coordinator. The first day ended with an ice-breaking session between the students as well as the department’s academic and support staffs.
The second day began in full swing with academic lectures concerning research by Assoc Prof Dr Victor Hoe and Assoc Prof Dr Wong Yut Lin. This was followed by a session on Sharing Experiences. Graduate and present MPH, MMedScPH and DrPH students were invited to share their past experiences while studying in UM. Guest lecturers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia and the World Health Organization were also requested to deliver lectures pertaining to their Public Health journey.
The third day of the orientation began with a lecture on Research Ethics by Assoc Prof Dr Sanjay Rampal. A second ice-breaking session was carried out whereby students were divided into six groups. Throughout the session, each group took turns to debate on a Public Health topic. The orientation week came to a close with the registration of students at Institute of Postgraduate Studies.
