The UMMC Wellness Programme is worksite wellness research programme, the programme is to acertain certain techiniques for the improvement of the health of the UMMC staff. As part of this programme two health talk were organised, the talk were divided into two session on two separate days to cater for the convinence of the staff.
The lunch talk was presented on 10 and 12 July 2007 at Dewan Sekapur Sirih, PPUM on 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. There were 37 participants on both days of the talk.
The topics covered general information on this wellness program and an overview on healthy lifestyle as well as major health risk factors associated with unhealthy lifestyle. Healthy lunch pack was provided during lunch talk. On 10 July 2007, chicken rice which is low in fat and skinless chicken was provided. For the second session on 12 July 2007, the pack lunch comprised of plain rice and curry fish cooked without coconut milk. Both healthy lunch pack wan prepared by BESTA caterer, PPUM.
The second health lunch talk was carried out on 24 and 26 July 2007 at Dewan Sekapur Sirih, PPUM 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. There were 32 participants on the 1st day and 25 participants on the second day.
The benefits of proper exercise to enhance the quality of lives and how to lose weight healthfully was discussed during the second lunch talk. The class provided some ideas of activities in the areas of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, and flexibility, factors that contribute to overweight and obesity and how does physical activities help to prevent overweight and obesity. During the lunch talk, healthy sardine sandwiches and fruits were given to the participants.
The speaker for both the talks are Dr Victor Hoe Chee Wai and Ms Moy Foong Ming, the other staff from the Department who have assisted in the measurement and registration are Ms Wee Bee Suan, Ms Lee Pek Ling, Ms Celine Quek and Ms Eng Jui Yee.
