Visitors from Vietnam as part of the WHO fellowship programme in Malaysia

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM) welcomed a delegation from Vietnam on 18 July 2007 as part of a fellowship programme under the World Health Organization (WHO). The visitors were in Malaysia for a two-week attachment to gain insights into the country’s healthcare system and public health practices.

During their visit to the Department and the University Malaya Medical Centre, the delegation was briefed on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by SPM. The session was conducted by S. Noor Ghani and Victor CW Hoe, who provided an overview of the department’s academic structure, training approaches, and areas of specialisation.

The programme also included guided visits to key facilities within the Faculty of Medicine and UMMC, including the SPM Library, SPM Computer Laboratory, Medical Library, postgraduate lecture halls, and the outpatient department. These visits provided participants with practical exposure to the academic and clinical training environment.

The visiting fellows included:

  1. Vo Thi Nhi Ha – Pharmacist from the Ministry of Health, Vietnam.
  2. Pham Van Trong – Lecturer and Researcher from ThaiBinh Medical College, Vietnam.
  3. Tran Van Ve – Ministry of Health, Vietnam.
