After the successful completion of a 6-week-long Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Implementation Research (IR) in 2022, we are pleased to invite you to join the  MOOC on IR-2023, starting June 19 till July 30, 2023. As we are committed to expanding the reach of IR, there is no cost associated with this course.

Introduction to the course:

IR is important for designing strategies or solutions to overcome bottlenecks that prevent proven and innovative public health interventions from reaching the people who need them. This ensures that these interventions are used in a manner that results in the outcome for which they were intended.

This 6-week MOOC is an in-depth, online training programme taught by leading experts in the field for public health students and researchers/academics, policymakers, managers of disease control programmes, and other health professionals.

The MOOC focuses on core concepts and how to design and evaluate solid IR projects to improve control of infectious diseases of poverty and produce better population health outcomes. The MOOC is organised by the research team from the Universiti Malaya, UNU-IIGH, and IHSCR known as the TDR Regional Training Centre for Implementation Research in the Western Pacific Region (RTC-WPR).

Course objectives:

The objective of the course is to build the capacity to identify the challenges of various health settings, assess the appropriateness of existing strategies, and develop new interventions and strategies by working with communities and stakeholders.

Learning outcomes:

Experts guide participants through the core concepts of IR, including modules that address how to:

Identify the challenges of various health settings.

  • Assess the appropriateness of existing disease control strategies.
  • Develop new interventions and strategies by working with communities and stakeholders.
  • Specify IR questions.
  • Design rigorous research projects. This includes identifying IR outcomes, evaluating effectiveness, and planning to scale up implementation in real-life settings.

By the end of the course, it is anticipated that you will be able to:

  • design your own implementation research projects;
  • critically evaluate and use the evidence produced by other implementation research projects;
  • commission robustly designed implementation research projects,

with the ultimate goal of enhancing the evidence base of practical ways to improve the health of the populations we serve.
