Access to and utilisation of healthcare by migrant women is often low due to various factors, including exclusionary policies, fear of arrest and deportation, language barriers and stigma, and traditional cultural practices within migrant communities. These barriers and challenges are often exacerbated when it comes to sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and services. However, to achieve “universal access to sexual and reproductive health services” 2030 (SDG 3.7), the SRHR of migrant women and girls must be prioritized and their access to these services improved.

This webinar will showcase research on migrant women’s experiences of sexual and reproductive health in different contexts and explore opportunities for improving access to SRHR for women and girls in migration and displacement contexts. The webinar will be opened by Eva Åkerman Börje, Director, Policy, Knowledge and Research, IOM.

The panel will be moderated by Marie McAuliffe, Head, the Migration Research and Publications Division and feature interventions from the following panelists:

1. Prof Pía Riggirozzi and Prof David Owen (University of Southampton)
2. Professor Tharani Loganathan (Universiti Malaya)
3. Dr Bouchra Assarag (National School of Public Health, Morocco)

This webinar is part of the “GenMig Research Webinar Series: New Insights from the Field” organised in the context of IOM’s Gender and Migration Research Policy Action Lab (GenMig).
