Bridging Data Science and Healthy Ageing: Professor Linyan Li’s Academic Exchange at the Department, 4-8 August 2025

From 4 to 8 August 2025, the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, is pleased to host Professor Linyan Li from the City University of Hong Kong. Professor Li holds dual appointments in the Department of Data Science and the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health at the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences. Her interdisciplinary research spans environmental epidemiology, spatial analytics, and population health, with a strong focus on data-driven insights into healthy ageing.

During her academic exchange, Professor Li will collaborate closely with Professor Dr. Claire Choo Wan Yuen. The primary objectives of this visit are to co-analyse a global ageing dataset, initiate joint publications, and deliver capacity-building sessions for postgraduate students.

This exchange underscores the increasing importance of cross-border collaboration in addressing the challenges of rapidly ageing populations. With Malaysia projected to become a super-aged society by 2056, generating high-quality, harmonised data is crucial for anticipating long-term care needs and shaping age-friendly policy.

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine warmly welcomes Professor Linyan Li and wishes her a fruitful and successful attachment at Universiti Malaya.
