On 25 June 2025, a delegation from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, conducted a courtesy visit to the Office of the Deputy Director General of Public Health, Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia in Putrajaya. The delegation was led by Professor Dr Victor Hoe and accompanied by Associate Professor Dr Tharani Loganathan and Dr Bala Murali Sundram. They were warmly received by Dr Ismuni Bohari, with Dr Mohammad Nazarudin Bin Bahari also in attendance. The meeting was coordinated by Dr Normazlina Mustaza.
Congratulations and Collaborative Dialogues




The Department congratulated Dr Ismuni Bohari on his recent appointment as the Deputy Director General of Public Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia. The visit aimed to reinforce the collaborative ties between the department and the MOH in advancing the practice of public health medicine in Malaysia. This alignment is crucial for developing evidence-based interventions and nurturing the next generation of public health professionals in Malaysia.
Spotlight on APRU Global Health Conference 2025
An important agenda item was the introduction of the upcoming Asia Pacific Rim Universities Global Health Conference 2025 (APRU GHC 2025) with the theme Towards Planetary Health Equity: A Global Call for Shared Solutions, hosted by the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya. The conference is scheduled to convene leading global health experts and will serve as a pivotal platform for regional cooperation and knowledge exchange.
The APRU GHC 2025 will feature three thematic tracks:
- Planetary Health Equity
- Global Health Systems
- Global Burden of Disease
The programme will include keynote addresses, symposia, and panel discussions featuring many prominent MOH staff as speakers and contributors. Their participation underscores Malaysia’s leadership in addressing pressing health challenges across the Asia-Pacific region.
The delegation encouraged strong engagement from the MOH in the conference, both in participation and content contribution, to further highlight the Ministry’s role in shaping global public health discourse.
Advancing Public Health Through Academic-Public Sector Synergy
This visit reflects a shared commitment to integrating academic expertise with public health practice to address contemporary health challenges. Strengthening such partnerships is essential for developing resilient, evidence-based health systems responsive to local and global needs.
