Congratulations to Dr. Nur Afiqah Mohd Salleh on Her Election as Vice President of the Malaysian AIDS Council

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Nur Afiqah Mohd Salleh, a distinguished member of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, has been elected as the Vice President of the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC). She represents the “Persatuan Insaf Murni Malaysia,” Dr. Nur Afiqah brings her extensive expertise and commitment to advancing HIV care and prevention to this pivotal role.

Dr. Nur Afiqah’s research has significantly contributed to understanding the institutional structures that support optimal adherence to HIV treatment among HIV-positive individuals who use illicit drugs. Her work, grounded in sociological perspectives, has sought to align individual and organizational interactions to promote patient-centered care and improve HIV care outcomes. Her future research endeavors aim to generate comprehensive datasets and establish confidential linkages to enhance HIV clinical monitoring and treatment outcomes, particularly for Malaysian populations.

The Malaysian AIDS Council recently held its Annual General Meeting on August 17, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, where the new Executive Committee (EXCO) for 2024-2027 was elected. The revised constitution of MAC has introduced three independent positions on the EXCO, bringing fresh perspectives from the private sector and professional bodies to enhance governance and sustainability. The new EXCO lineup is as follows:

  • President: Assoc Prof Dr. Raja Iskandar Shah Raja Azwa (PT Foundation)
  • Vice President: Dr. Nur Afiqah Mohd Salleh (Persatuan Insaf Murni Malaysia)
  • Honorary Secretary: Dr. Zaiton binti Yahaya (Sabah AIDS Awareness Group Association – SAGA)
  • Asst. Honorary Secretary: Dr. Yuwana Podin (Sarawak AIDS Concern Society)
  • Honorary Treasurer: Ken Woo Kin Fai (KLASS – Kuala Lumpur AIDS Support Services Society)
