Raising awareness on fire prevention and safety among the department members

The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Fire Preventors’ Society or Pertubuhan Pencegah Kebakaran Kuala Lumpur (PPKKL), held a talk on fire prevention and suppression measures, as well as a disclosure on fire cases that occur according to statistics from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department. The session was held on Monday, 13th June 2022 at 9.00 am located in the department’s conference room, and attended by our Head of Department, Professor Dr Victor Hoe and other department members.

The session, which was held for the first time, at the department level, which was received an encouraging response from the staff. The session has provided a lot of knowledge and sharing experiences related to fire incidents and early fire prevention methods. The speaker, Mr Jeffry Chin who has 8 years of experience in the field of fire prevention also made a brief indoor demonstration on the use of fire prevention equipment such as smoke detectors, fire blanket, and fire extinguishers. The session aimed to raise awareness of fire safety and instil the spirit of responsibility of taking care of our surroundings, our homes and loved ones from fire incidents.
