The COVID-19 vaccination programme in Malaysia has moved into Phase 2, which will be focusing on immunisation of other frontliners and high-risk population groups like the elderly and people with comorbidities. Although it has reached Phase 2, the registration for the COVID-19 vaccination through MySejatera and online is still low. There are many issues related to the low number of registration, among them are the difficulties with registration due to low IT literacy, vaccine hesitancy and miss information.
Michelle Ng the assemblywoman of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Subang Jaya constituency in the state of Selangor organised a community engagement project to address the two issues at the SS14 field, Subang Jaya on Sunday, 4th April 2021. The engagement was to assists the residents in the registration and to alleviate their doubts about the COVID-19 vaccine. Prof Dr Victor Hoe delivered the talk on “COVID-19 vaccine – what you need to know” as a Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Wilayah Persekutuan Branch community engagement activity. The talk touched on the origin of vaccines, the Malaysia National Immunization Programme, the process of vaccine development, the different types of COVID-19 vaccine, the Malaysia COVID-19 vaccination programme and the benefit of getting vaccinated.
There were many questions on the eligibility for vaccination, the process of the development of vaccines, immune system, adverse reaction and vaccine allocation.
