The Center for Population Health (CePH), Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) Kuala Lumpur and the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine successfully organised the “Symposium on Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health Problems in Youth” on the 26th of June, 2019 at TJ Danaraj, Faculty of Medicine. The symposium was officiating by the YB Michelle Ng Mei Sze. The objective of the Symposium was to gather stakeholders who are active in the domain of mental health. The individual presentations on mental health issues and intervention were followed by a forum of our representatives from University of Malaya and our collaborators from the Ministry of Health and Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA). The Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) also conducted training on managing the mental health problems with the aim to enhance the participants’ skills and knowledge on promoting mental health wellbeing for youth.
During the Symposium, Prof Dr Maznah Dahlui the Head of the CePH and the Deputy Dean of Postgraduate, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya also announced the development of a mobile application to help users identify if they are going through anxiety, depression and stress. This will allow the Youth to screen and score themselves and provide advice for them to seek help if needed. The information was featured in the Star and theSunDaily.
