Assoc Prof Nirmala Bhoo Pathy presented her research findings on cancer and financial catastrophe at the OGSM annual scientific meeting. She noted that 50% of Malaysians encounter financial catastrophe within the first year of being diagnosed with cancer and it affects families in low- and middle-income groups worst. One of the reasons for this was more than 50% of cancer patients present at late stages.
