Global Health Seminar 2025: Insights from the Frontlines with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

On 29th May 2025, the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, hosted an inspiring Global Health Seminar featuring two distinguished guest speakers from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF): Ms Khaulah Fadzil and Mr Aymen Abdullah. Held at Dewan Kuliah 8, the event fostered an enriching environment for knowledge gain and the sharing of experiences among students, featuring insightful reflections from guest speakers from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Organised by Master of Public Health (MPH) students, Group 1, as part of their Global Health course, the seminar focused on the theme “Conflict and Health”. The event served as an academic platform to explore the complex realities of delivering healthcare in humanitarian and conflict-affected settings.

Ms Khaulah and Mr Aymen shared invaluable field experiences and insights into MSF’s operations in crisis zones, emphasising the importance of medical neutrality, ethical decision-making, and cross-cultural sensitivity in fragile environments. Their stories highlighted not only the challenges of working in volatile settings but also the resilience and commitment required to uphold human dignity in health service delivery.

A lively Q&A session followed, allowing students to further engage with the guests on critical issues such as global health equity, emergency preparedness, and humanitarian accountability.

We extend our sincere acknowledgement and appreciation to Ms Khaulah and Mr Aymen Abdullah for their time, expertise, and inspiring contributions to the seminar. Their presence provided students with a rare opportunity to connect classroom learning with global public health realities on the ground.

This session reinforces Universiti Malaya’s dedication to producing well-rounded, globally aware health professionals equipped to contribute meaningfully to both local and international health landscapes.
