Professor Dr. Victor Hoe Chee Wai from Universiti Malaya’s Department of Social and Preventive Medicine recently contributed to an important dialogue regarding the future of occupational health in Malaysia. On Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, Professor Hoe, in his capacity as a council member of the Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Malaysia (AOEMM), joined AOEMM President Dr. Abu Hasan Samad and fellow council members, Prof Dr Retneswari Masilamani and Dr Anza Alias, in a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Health’s Digital Health Division.

The AOEMM delegation had a productive meeting with Dr. Maheshwara Rao Appannan, Director of the Digital Health Division, and his team. It was a pleasure to note the presence of Universiti Malaya alumni within the Ministry’s team, including Dr. Maheshwara himself and Dr. Vivek Jason Jayaraj, who are both making significant contributions in their roles. In addition, Dr Siti Aishah Binti Iskandar, Dr Nurain Amirah Binti Zolkefli, Dr Nur Atikah Binti Mohd Nasir, Dr Sarah Idayu Binti Mohd Abd Latiff, Dr Iesza Raihan Binti Ali, and Dr Nurul Zariffa Binti Saat also joined in the discussion.
The discussion centred on the potential integration of occupational history tracking into the MySejahtera platform, a step aimed at enhancing public health monitoring and workplace safety. Professor Hoe shared his perspectives as the group explored the technical aspects, data privacy considerations, and implementation requirements for such an initiative.
The Ministry’s team provided an overview of their ongoing work with the MySejahtera platform and their commitment to making it more beneficial for the public and healthcare providers. The conversation on integrating occupational history was positive, and it was agreed that further discussions would follow to determine the specific information needed for this feature. This collaborative spirit underscores a shared commitment to advancing occupational well-being for the nation.
