The Malaysian Public Health Physicians’ Association (PPPKAM – Persatuan Pakar Perubatan Kesihatan Awam Malaysia) comprised of Public Health Medicine Specialist from across the nation – standing on issues pertaining to the profession development and concerns with the health of the public. PPPKAM offer research grant to its members to support public health research in Malaysia. The application for this year’s grant was opened from 3rd March to 10th April 2024. Preceding the grant opening there was a series of seminars conducted by PPPKAM on the Guidelines in Conducting Research and Research Proposal Development on 2nd March and 23rd March respectively.
This year PPPKAM offered three grants of RM5,000 each. The winners of the grant was announced on 6th May 2024. Out of the three grants, two academics from the Social and Preventive Medicine Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya was successful. The winners from the Department are Associate Professor Dr. Nik Daliana Nik Farid and Dr Catherine Thamarai Arumugam, each of them securing RM5,000 each for their research.
Associate Professor Dr Nik Daliana and her team won the grant for their research titled “Validation of Public Stigma on Dementia Questionnaire” which is part of their larger research looking at Facing the Forgotten: Dismantling Dementia Stigma in Malaysia while Dr Catherin Thamarai and her team won the grant for their research titled “Integrating Child Media Habits into Routine Developmental Assessment of Toddlers in Kuala Lumpur Health Clinic”.
