Members of the Nicotine Addiction Research Collaborating Group (NARCC) of Universiti Malaya Centre for Addiction Science Studies (UMCAS) met for their annual strategic planning meeting on the 10th March 2022 at the CUBE, Faculty of Medicine. This was the first F2F meeting, and some new members met for the first time after working together online for some time.
The meeting kick-off with a fun ice-breaking session conducted by Dr Muhammad Al Fakri Mat Noh. Incumbent Coordinator, Associate Professor Dr Amer Siddiq Amer Nordin welcomed and shared brief history, vision and mission as well as milestones of this research group since its inception in 2009, before passing over the stewardship to Associate Professor Dr Anne Yee as the new Coordinator and Associate Professor Dr Nur Amani @ Natasha Ahmad Tajuddin as Deputy Coordinator. Associate Professor Dr Anne Yee graciously accepted her new role as Coordinator and reiterated the objectives and values of NARCC as well as highlighted the upcoming NARCC activities for 2022-2023.
The rest of the day was spent collaboratively on the way forward focusing on the areas of research, advocacy, education and possible income generation. Professor Dr Rahimah Abdul Kadir, NARCC advisor shared an update on the Development of Agents of Change among Universiti Malaya Non-Health Students – Education & Research.
All members enjoyed refreshing light stretching exercises and a hearty lunch. Most importantly, the meeting provided a platform for all members to meet and focus on the various aspect of nicotine addiction research.
