In an interview with Nur Shazreena Ali from the New Sarawak Tribune, Prof Datuk Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud said we should learn from the experience from the current situation in Sabah. It had provided us with a lesson that the laxity in adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the polling and campaigning period has lead to the rise in the number of COVID-19 infection.
He said that the laxity in adherence to the SOP among the public could be due to fatigue of the population. To ensure that SOP is adhering to, health education needs to be innovative and continuous. He suggested getting the help of behavioural scientist as they understand what makes successful behavioural change and why some people get fatigued.
