We are pleased to share that Dr Siti Idayu Binti Hasan has successfully completed her Doctor of Philosophy (Public Health) viva voce on 20th May 2020 @ 27 Ramadhan 1441 Hijrah. She was supervised by Associate Professor Dr Farizah Mohd Hairi and Associate Professor Dr Amer Siddiq Amer Nordin. Her doctorate thesis was on “Evaluation of Smoking Cessation Training For Healthcare Providers In Malaysia: A Mixed Methods Study”.
Siti Idayu developed a new evaluation tool which can be used to evaluate other smoking cessation training programmes. It is the ‘Providers’ Smoking Cessation Training evaluation tool’ or in short, ProSCiTe. Her intellectual property (IP) is now copyrighted under Universiti Malaya (No. LY2019008277). This is a very novel contribution during her PhD study where not many PhD work managed to produce an IP within a 4-year study duration.
Siti Idayu was also able to proof the effectiveness of SCOPE (a local smoking cessation training programme developed in Universiti Malaya for Ministry of Health staff), where this training should be extended to all health staff in Malaysia, whether they are practicing in the government or private sector. Her findings from the qualitative component of her research provided good insights into the facilitators and barriers on improving the current smoking cessation services in Malaysia.
During her PhD journey, she has published three papers and one chapter in a Policy Book for Ministry of Health Malaysia.
