We are pleased to share that Dr Tengku Amatullah Madeehah Binti T Mohd has successfully completed her Doctorate of Public Health viva voce on 13th of November 2019. She was supervised by Professor Dr Claire Choo Wan Yuen and Associate Professor Dr Farizah Mohd Hairi. Her doctorate thesis was on “Social support among rural community-dwelling older adults and its association with depression and quality of life”. She conducted a systematic review to critically analyse the literature on the association between social support and depression in the context of Asia. The results of her systematic review showed higher social support was associated with reduced depression among community-dwelling older adults in Asia. Her systematic review also highlighted the importance of family as a source of support in reducing depressive symptoms in the older adults. Her study included an extensive analysis of secondary data to examine the relationships between social support, depression and quality of life using structural equation modelling. It was found that higher functional social support was associated with reduced depression and better quality of life.
Her systematic review was published in BMJ – Social support and depression among community dwelling older adults in Asia: a systematic review.
Our heartiest congratulations!
