The department would like to congratulate Dr Santhi Subramaniam on successfully completing her DrPH viva voce held on the 28th January 2019. The title of her thesis is ‘Perception of Family Planning Utilization among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Women (T2DM), Spouse and Health Care Providers-A Qualitative Study’. The study aimed to understand and explore the factors influencing family planning utilization among T2DM women, spouse and healthcare providers in Gombak district, Selangor. The findings of the study suggest that an element of uniqueness exists because individual experiences with regard to side effects of family planning methods and complications are different for each woman. This study also highlighted the importance of spouses role in family planning utilisation decision making. This study underlines the importance of the role of healthcare providers and the current healthcare system in providing family planning services within primary health care facilities. Dr Santhi was supervised by Associate Professor Dr Mas Ayu Said and Dr Nik Daliana Nik Farid.
