A workshop on Theory and Practice of Qualitative Research was held successfully on the 27th October 2014. Dr Jennifer Lim Nyuk Wo from the Anglia Ruskin University, United Kingdom conducted the 1-day workshop. About 15 participants most of which comprised of students from the qualitative research background including lecturers in lieu of the diverse departments within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya attended the workshop. The workshop included topics on the foundation of qualitative research and grounding required to use this method and in-depth interviews and focus groups, COREQ and mixed methods research. The objectives of the workshop were to describe the assumptions, principles and claims to knowledge of qualitative research, provide an understanding of the iterative nature of the qualitative research process and its’ key component elements and the importance of these in preparing good research proposals and to also provide an understanding of issues of validity, reliability and generalisability.
