The two days Beyond Occupational Health Conference 2023 was successfully held on the 4th and 5th November 2023 at the ParkRoyal Collection Kuala Lumpur. The conference was organised by the Twin Towers Medical Centre and IHH Healthcare. The speakers for the conference presented various papers on the current development of occupational health and provided guidance for occupational health doctors in the country.
Professor Dr Victor CW Hoe from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya was invited to present the paper on Hepatitis in Occupational Health. The other speakers were Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin bin Abdul Hamid, Consultant Cardiologist, Twin Towers Medical Centre who delivered the paper on “Cardiovascular Disease in Occupational Health (Dyslipidemia/HPT)” and Prof Dr Naesinee Chaiear, Professor in Occupational Medicine, Khon Kaen University, Thailand on “Occupational Asthma”.
Dr Mohd Ihsani Bin Mahmood, Public Health Medicine Specialist, Principle Assistant Director, Division of Infectious Disease Control, Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Sector, Ministry of Health Malaysia and Dr Justin Chai Kim Loong, Director of Medical Affairs APEC, Infectious Diseases, QIAGEN presented the topic “Tuberculosis: Role of Screening Among Workers”. The first day concluded with a panel discussion.
On the second day of the conference, Dr Abu Hasan bin Samad, President, Academy of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Malaysia and the Chief Medical Advisor of Twin Towers Medical Centre, continue the conference with the recap of the papers presented on Day-1. This was followed with the presentation of the “New Guidelines on Medical Surveillance 2023” by Dr Rajinderjit Singh Hullon, Deputy Director of Occupational Health Division, Department of Occupational Safety and Health.
Dr Jaseema Begum, Occupational Health Specialist, PETRONAS share her study on “Occupational Cancer” and Ir Nimi Binti Ahmad, Occupational Safety and Health Consultant, Perunding Nimi shared the paper on “Industrial Hygiene for Occupational Health Doctors”. The session concluded with a panel discussion.
