Salivary Biomarkers Research – Promises and Pitfall – Prof Dr David Koh

Professor Dr David Koh from the Department of Community, Occupational and Family Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore gave a lecture on “Salivary Biomarkers Research – Promises and Pitfall” at the regular Wendesday morning CME session at Dewan Gaharu, UMMC.

He touched on the biomarkers that can be measurred using saliva; which include heavy metals, hormones, drugs and enzymes. Salivary biomarkers is a real time measurement and also a non-invasive methods to collect biological fluids as compared to urine and blood. The research that has been carried out by Prof David on salivary biomarkers include workplace stress and for salivary lead levels in lead workers.
