Principal Investigator

Professor Dr MOY Foong Ming
Dr Moy is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health from the Department of Social & Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.  Her research interests are in obesity and lifestyle behaviours (diet, physical activity etc) on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the community setting including worksites. Dr Moy has obtained research grants for more than RM2 million and published more than 100 ISI papers.  She has been included in the prestigious World’s Top 2 % Scientists in the Stanford University’s list for two conservative years (2019 and 2020).  She has completed the supervision of more than 50 post-graduate candidates.  She also acts as associate editors for both international and local peer reviewed journals.

Professor Dr Noran Naqiah Hairi

Noran N Hairi is a Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. She is best known for her work on epidemiology of ageing and ageing-related issues such as disability, sarcopenia, frailty, elder abuse and neglect. She is the Principal Investigator for “Prevent Elder Abuse and Neglect Initiative (PEACE 1.0), UM Grand Challenge Research Grant and Prevent Elder finAnCial Exploitation (PEACE 2.0), a co-creation research with Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK), Bank Negara Malaysia.

Professor Datuk Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud

The first Malaysian doctor to gain a PhD in Health Informatics, Prof Dr. Awang Bulgiba Awg Mahmud is an epidemiologist and health informatician; and the first public health medicine specialist to accumulate these 4 fellowships (FFPH, FPHMM, FAMM and FASc). He is currently Secretary-General for the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and Council Member for the Academy of Medicine Malaysia and was formerly President of APACPH-KL, and UM Deputy Vice-Chancellor. He led the formulation of Malaysia’s National Policy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2030, and the UniTP Orange Playbook and has published more than 100 Web of Science-indexed journal articles. He was awarded the Ma’al Hijrah Award for Outstanding Achievements in Research and Development in 2013 by the Sarawak State Government, the UM Eminent Scholar Award in 2018 and the APACPH Excellence in Leadership Medallion in 2018.

Professor Dr Sanjay Rampal

Sanjay Rampal is a Public Health Medical Specialist, Professor of Epidemiology, and the Deputy Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. Dr Rampal had served in the Ministry of Health Malaysia before joining academia. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia. Dr Rampal’s research focuses on the epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular disease, with an emphasis on nutrition, obesity, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and dyslipidemia. He also believes that Implementation Science and Global Health may be leveraged to reduce the number of people seeking healthcare.

Post Graduate Researcher (Current)

Mr. Ng Yit Han

Mr. Ng is a Doctor of Philosophy Student in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. His research interest is about lifestyle and mental health-driven exposures concerning non-communicable diseases, utilising a predictive modeling approach.

Dr. Patrick Peng Wee Yao

Dr. Patrick is an occupational health doctor registered with the Department of Occupational Health and Safety, Malaysia. He completed his Master of Public Health from the University of Malaya in 2020. He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree (Doctor of Public Health) and his research interest is related to the occupational health.

Dr. Soh Yih Harng

Dr. Soh Yih Harng has ten years of experience working as a doctor from Melaka. He holds a medical degree from Taiwan Kaohsiung Medical University, and a Master of Public Health degree from University of Malaya. Currently, he is a Doctor of Public Health candidate at University of Malaya and working as the head of Infection Control Unit in Hospital Melaka.

Dr. Yap Jun Fai

Dr. Yap graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Malaya in 2015 and completed his Master of Public Health (with distinction) in 2021. He managed to publish his Ophthalmology-related thesis in a peer-reviewed journal. He is currently under sponsorship to continue pursuing his doctoral degree (Doctor of Public Health).

Dr. Yoong Lee Yeen

Dr. Yoong is a medical doctor with various public health-related working experiences under the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. She completed her Master of Public Health (Malaya) in 2020. She is currently a Doctor of Public Health candidate from the University of Malaya. She has great interest in the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Zakiah Binti Othman

Dr. Zakiah has thirteen years of experience as a Medical Officer in Government Health Clinic. She acquired her medical degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and her Master of Public Health with distinction from Universiti Malaya. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree (Doctor of Public Health) with a research interest in obesity.
