Dr. Bhoo Pathy is one of the 20 commissioners in the Lancet Commission on Women and Cancer, which comprises a multidisciplinary and diverse team from around the globe, with expertise in gender studies, human rights, law, economics, sociology, as well as cancer epidemiology, prevention, and treatment.  Co-chaired by Dr. Ophira Ginsburg, Dr. Verna Vanderpuye, and Dr. Isabelle Soerjomataram, the Lancet Commission on Women and Cancer seeks to address urgent questions at the nexus of gender, power, and cancer. The commission ultimately envisions a world where every person, regardless of their gender, age, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, geography, religion, disability, migration status, among other dimensions, can realize their right to the highest attainable standard of health.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Lancet Commission on cancer and health systems is composed of a group of healthcare experts from several countries. Led by renowned cancer experts, Dr. Felicia Knaul, Dr. Patricia J. Garcia and Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz, the commission aims to develop equitable, accessible and high-quality cancer care and control through leveraging technology and innovations. By advancing global cancer care and control it seeks to strengthen health systems. Dr. Nirmala Bhoo<\/em> Pathy currently serves as a commissioner on the Lancet Commission on cancer and health systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Nirmala Bhoo<\/em> Pathy serves as a member of the Covid-19 and Cancer Taskforce, a globally representative group of cancer experts from leading organisations including the World Health Organization<\/em> (WHO) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The taskforce aims to assess the immediate impacts of COVID-19 on cancer patients and health care providers as well as address the risks for longer term impacts. It also seeks to employ an integrated approach to develop resilient cancer services that can readily respond to future pandemics particularly in low- and middle-income countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Global Breast Cancer Initiative is a collaborative effort between WHO and other UN agencies, partner organisations and experts including, Dr. Nirmala Bhoo<\/em> Pathy to reduce global breast cancer mortality. <\/strong>Led by Dr. Ben Anderson, the initiative aims to do so by improving early diagnosis and comprehensive quality treatment, especially in low- and middle- income countries that lack in cancer care. It also seeks to strengthen public education on breast cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently active in 9 cities around the world, the C\/Can foundation is a collaborative effort involving both public and private stakeholders to design and implement locally-driven, sustainable cancer solutions. By working at the city level, C\/Can aims to deliver global high-quality and equitable cancer care. Dr. Nirmala Bhoo Pathy currently co-leads the Community and Patient Access Technical Group with Ms. Ranjit Kaur, President of Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia for Greater Petaling, the second city in Asia to join C\/Can. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
